The Pelican Bar Back Story
A local fisherman named Floyd had a dream to build a bar on the sandbar for his fisherman friends that passed him every day on their way to Black River. Everyone told him he was mad, but one believer, a woman named Sally looked at him and said, “You’re going to be world famous one day.” She took one of the first photos ever taken of Pelican Bar on her mobile phone—and the mobile phone company in Jamaican used it for their national campaign. She was offered $500 for the photo and paid it forward-- giving the $500 to Floyd, who used it to stock his bar. The rest is history. People from around the world make it a “must see, must do.”  Make sure this is on your Bucket List.
